The Right Frame of Mind

By Kimberly T. Hodous

"If we did all the things we were capable of, we would literally astonish ourselves-Thomas Edison

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."-Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Show up and be you."- Kim Hodous

"If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!" Now that's the quote that really counts! And boy is it true! I'm sure we can all recall a time when kids came bounding into the house happily and once you yelled at them for leaving the door open and wearing their shoes on the carpet - all traces of joy were gone!

So how do you pivot if you're in a bad place? With the demands of work and mothering, it's impossible to not occasionally find yourself stressed out, overwhelmed or just down right feeling sorry for yourself!

But there are things you can do to consciously align yourself with positive energy! And they're not hard! I can promise you these are all proven because I've used them myself!

*Listen to Music - this is a suggestion from Motivational Mastermind Bob Proctor. My absolute favorite for this exercise is Karen Druckers, "I am so Blessed." Whether you love rock and roll, country or opera - blast it loud, move your body and watch your vibration shift!

*Focus on Gratitude - I truly believe with all my heart gratitude is the key to a happy life. It is impossible to feel truly grateful for what you have and constricted in the same moment. If you find yourself getting negative or angry or resentful - take a few moments to focus on all the good in your life and watch things shift - quickly!

*Practice Affirmations - Affirmations are just taking that gratitude one step further. Affirmations are positive statements you say to your subconscious to visualize the outcome you want for your future. I write them on post-it notes and stick them on my computer or the bathroom mirror. Say your affirmation as if you already have it using the present tense. Example, "I am a fun, energetic and powerful working mom and I have all the time I choose for my family, myself and the work I love!"

*Take Care of Yourself - In my seminars I talk about how when we get stressed, it's usually the things we need the most that we give up first. Look at the activities that feed you - and make sure you're doing them! If a daily walk, a bubble bath, 30 minutes of reading are the things that feed your soul - do them! You can't give away what you don't have and if you're not happy - 'ain't no one gonna be happy!'

*Visualize Your Life as a Play -Imagine watching your life played out in an actual theatre. You're the writer, producer, director and actor! You can imagine anything you want. So if your day (Or week, or year, or life...) isn't going the way you want - STOP! Imagine it played out on the big screen just the way you want it to be. Bring the emotion of it to life.

*Breathe - Breath is the key to life. Without breath there is no life. So BREATHE! It sounds simple, and it is simple, but it's also powerfully effective. You need to be in a relaxed state to perform at your best - whether it's mothering, working or nurturing yourself. So when you need to calm down, just sit and breathe. Even for just one minute will make a huge difference! This works immediately and under all stressful situations.
